Volleyball Blanked at Le Moyne, 3-0

Jackson tallies seven kills; Bruce, Miller add six each

Bruce Bruce finished with six kills at Le Moyne on Sunday afternoon.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 31, 2010) – Freshman middle Katie Jackson (Cherry Creek, Colo.) finished with seven kills, while freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.) and freshman middle Ashley Bruce (Hampton Falls, N.H.) added six kills each on Sunday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team was defeated on the road, 3-0, by Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play at Ted Grant Court. Sophomore outside hitters Allison Hebel (12 kills) and Bethany Fabian (11) led the way for Le Moyne in the victory.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 10-10 (4-9 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 14-10 (7-6 Northeast-10). Le Moyne swept through the match by set scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-19.

Jackson and Bruce led the offense for Franklin Pierce on the afternoon, as they hit .333 and .235, respectively. Behind those two and Miller, senior outside hitter Christina Calderon (Tombstone, Ariz.) was the only other Raven to amass multiple kills, as she finished with five while hitting .143. The quartet worked off the set of senior Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.), who finished with 23 assists.

Defensively, Miller led Franklin Pierce on the day with 12 digs, as she was the only Raven to reach double digits, though four of her teammates collected at least five digs each. Bruce finished with a pair of block assists.

For Le Moyne, Hebel hit .310 to lead the way, while Fabian finished at .267. The only other Dolphin with more than five kills was sophomore middle Morgan McDermott, who finished with seven kills and hit .312. The trio worked through the set of sophomore Katie Plukas, who handed out 30 assists. Senior libero Andrea Sterling served up five aces on the afternoon.

On the defensive side of the net, Sterling was the only Dolphin in double figures with a match-best 17 digs, though Fabian and senior right side Krista Prentice each added nine digs of their own. McDermott and Plukas each posted a pair of block assists in the match.

The Le Moyne offense hit .190, as it finished with 36 kills against 16 errors. Franklin Pierce collected 27 kills on the afternoon to go with 15 errors, as it hit .122.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 2, when they return home to host Merrimack in a non-conference contest. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fieldhouse in Rindge.
