NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (September 25, 2010) – Freshman middle Katie Jackson (Cherry Creek, Colo.) collected a match-best nine kills on Saturday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team was defeated, 3-0, by Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play at Volpe Center. Sophomore middle Jenna Reilly piled up seven kills and seven blocks in the victory for Merrimack.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-3 (0-2 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 2-7 (1-3 Northeast-10). The Warriors swept through the three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-14.

Jackson collected her nine kills while hitting .158, which led the way for the Ravens, as the team hit just .076 on the afternoon. Senior outside hitter Christina Calderon (Tombstone, Ariz.) finished with seven kills, as she was the only other Franklin Pierce player to amass five or more. The duo worked off the set of senior Pam Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.), who dished out 22 assists. Defensively, senior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) led the Ravens with 21 digs, while freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.) added 12 of her own.

Meanwhile, junior middle Nicole Duarte and sophomore outside hitter Shaunda Forcier each collected eight kills to lead Merrimack, though it was Reilly and senior middle Megan Murray who were arguably the most effective on the attack. Murray hit a match-best .455 over 11 swings and finished with six kills to complement the seven kills and .278 over 18 attacks posted by Reilly. Senior setter Elyse Lorenz set up the offense for the Warriors, as she led all players with 32 assists. Defensively, Reilly finished with seven blocks (three solo), while sophomore outside hitter Natalee Yeazle added five block assists. In the back row, senior libero Alyssa Pickert and senior defensive specialist Heidi Wroblicky finished with 15 and 14 digs, respectively.

Merrimack out-hit Franklin Pierce in each of the three sets on its way to hitting .188 for the match. The Warriors closed things out authoritatively in the third set, as they hit .303 against a -.029 third set for Franklin Pierce.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Manchester, N.H. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Oct. 2 against Southern Connecticut State at 7 p.m.
