Volleyball Opens Season With Two Wins, One Loss at Millersville

Ravens sweep Bowie State, Felician

Pam Walker Pam Walker dished out 20-plus assists in each of three matches on Saturday afternoon at Millersville.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (September 4, 2010) – Freshman middle Katie Jackson (Cherry Creek, Colo.) served up seven aces and hammered out 10 kills on Saturday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Bowie State in neutral-site, non-conference action at Millersville. Jackson finished with 25 kills on the day, as the Ravens also picked up a 3-0 victory over Felician and dropped a 3-0 decision to host Millersville.

With its first three matches in the books, Franklin Pierce opens the season 2-1 (0-0 Northeast-10). The Ravens swept past Felician, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-17, and dispatched Bowie State, 25-14, 25-6, 25-12, before falling to Millersville, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19.

Against Felician, Jackson led the way with 10 kills while sophomore right side Kylie Clemens (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) contributed a career-high eight kills. Meanwhile, freshman middle Ashley Bruce (Hampton Fall, N.H.) and senior outside hitter Christina Calderon (Tombstone, Ariz.) collected eight kills apiece. All three worked off the set of senior Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) dished out 29 assists. Defensively, senior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) recorded 15 digs, while freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.) picked up 14 digs.

Against Bowie State, Jackson contributed 10 kills on 12 attacks without committing an error, while serving up seven aces as well. Miller added five kills on 12 errorless attacks of her own while pitching in six aces as well. Walker quarterbacked the offense with 24 assists.

Miller led the offense in the final match against Millersville with nine kills and chipped in 12 digs as well, to narrowly miss a double-double. Kohout dug out 20 balls defensively, Jackson contributed five kills and two blocks and Walker dished out 26 assists.
