PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (November 7, 2009) – Senior Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla.) tallied nine kills, including the 1,000th of her career, on Saturday afternoon and fellow senior Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas) notched a 10-kill, 16-dig double-double, but the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team was defeated, 3-2, by Pace in Northeast-10 Conference play at Pace’s Goldstein Fitness Center.

Franklin Pierce dropped the first set, 25-19, but then rallied to a 2-1 victory with a pair of 25-22 victories in the second and third sets. However, Pace would turn the 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory with a 25-9 win in the fourth set and a 15-7 victory in the decisive fifth set. With the loss, Franklin Pierce concludes the season at 8-22 (3-12 Northeast-10), while Pace improves to 17-10 (9-6 Northeast-10) with the win.

After being held without a kill in the first set, Ristow tallied three kills in the first six points of the second set to reach the 1,000-kill plateau for her career. She is the fourth player in Franklin Pierce history to top 1,000 kills and joins the club just four days after her classmate, Parnell, who accomplished the feat Tuesday at home against Post.

Beyond Ristow, Parnell’s double-double led Franklin Pierce while senior Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif.) chipped in seven kills and junior Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) dished out 28 assists. Defensively, junior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) led the way with 24 digs, while Feldmeth led all players with seven blocks (one solo).

For Pace, junior Sianna Johnson led four Setters in double digits with 19 kills. She was joined in double figures by freshman Nora Rugova (16 kills) and Susana Verdugo-Del Real (14) and junior Victoria Pompilus (11). Aside from the quartet, the remaining Setters combined for five kills. Pace ran the offense through sophomore setter Shea Hansen, who handed out a match-best 57 assists. Defensively, junior libero Stephanie Kazmierczak led all players with 33 digs and was joined in double digits by freshman Elyse Rowland, who added 14 of her own.

With the game tied 1-1 heading into the third set, the Franklin Pierce offense cranked up its best set of the day and hammered out 11 kills against just two errors over 34 attacks to hit .265. With the set tied 22-22, the Ravens ran off the last three points of the set behind kills by Walker, Feldmeth and sophomore Dana Rowinski (Dix Hills, N.Y.) to take the 25-22 victory.

However, from there, it was all Pace, as the Setters hit .567 with 17 kills and no errors over 30 swings in the fourth set as they stormed to the 25-9 win. Pace followed that with its second-best set of the afternoon, as it hit .217 to put the match away, 15-7, in the fifth set.
