Feldmeth leads way with nine kills

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (November 6, 2009) – Freshman Chelsea Overholt chalked up 12 kills on Friday night to lead Adelphi to a 3-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action at Adelphi’s Center for Sport and Recreation. Senior Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif.) picked up nine kills for Franklin Pierce in defeat.

Adelphi swept through the match with set scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-21. With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 8-21 (3-11 Northeast-10), while Adelphi moves to 24-8 (13-1 Northeast-10) with the victory.

For Franklin Pierce, Feldmeth led the way with nine kills, while fellow senior Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla.) added eight of her own and now sits just three kills shy of 1,000 for her career heading into Saturday’s season finale. Junior setter Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) dished out 20 assists on the evening. Defensively, junior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) led the way for the Ravens with 17 digs.

For Adelphi, Overholt’s 12 kills led the way, while senior Kelsey Hackett picked up nine of her own and junior Heather Mau handed out a match-best 33 assists to go with a match-high five service aces. Senior libero Amy Williams led the Panthers with 21 digs defensively and was joined in double digits by freshman Bree Popham (12 digs).

The Adelphi offense hit .243 on the evening, but came out of the gate on fire with a .464 first set in which it chalked up 14 kills against just one error over 28 attacks. Over the course of the match, the Panthers generated 42 kills to 14 errors over 115 swings.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 7, when they travel to Pace to wrap up the season with a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville, N.Y.
