Trio of Ravens rack up double-doubles

RINDGE, N.H. (November 1,
2009) – Seniors Caitlynn Parnell (Medina,
Texas) and Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla.) and
junior Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) all
collected double-doubles on Sunday afternoon, but the Franklin
Pierce University volleyball team was defeated, 3-2, by Le Moyne in
Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce’s Fieldhouse.
Senior Elizabeth Cheek piled up a match-best 24 kills to go with 23
digs to lead Le Moyne to the victory.
After dropping the first set, 25-21, Franklin Pierce took a 2-1
lead with 25-20 and 25-22 wins in the second and third sets,
respectively. From there, Le Moyne took the final to sets by scores
of 25-18 and 15-4. With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 7-20
(3-10 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 16-8 (8-5
Northeast-10) with the victory.
For Franklin Pierce, Ristow and Parnell led the offense with 14 and
11 kills, respectively, working off the set of Walker, who chalked
up 36 assists on the afternoon. Junior libero Chelsie
Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) stole the show for the
Ravens defensively, as her season-high 32 digs led five Franklin
Pierce players in double digits. Parnell tallied 17 digs, Walker
added 14 and Ristow picked up 13 as all three finished off
double-doubles. Senior Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena,
Calif.) led the team with four blocks (two solo).
For Le Moyne, Cheek led the way with 24 kills, while freshman
Bethany Fabian racked up 13 kills and a team-best .324 hitting
percentage. Junior Krista Prentice (14 kills) and freshman Morgan
McDermott (10 kills) also reached double digits offensively for the
Dolphins, while senior setter Kaylin Brainerd dished out a
match-best 53 assists. Defensively, Fabian led Le Moyne with 27
digs, while Cheek (23 digs) and Prentice (16) both notched
double-doubles as well. McDermott led the Dolphins with four block
assists.
With a tip over the Franklin Pierce block early in the first set
for her first kill of the match, Cheek became Le Moyne’s
all-time leader in kills. She would later chalk up 10 kills in the
fourth and fifth sets combined as Le Moyne rallied from a 2-1
deficit to take the 3-2 victory. Over the final two sets, the
Dolphins chalked up 27 kills against only three errors over 60
attacks to hit .400, including a .471 mark without an error in the
decisive fifth set. Leading 19-17 in the fourth set, Le Moyne
rattled off 19 of the match’s final 24 points to put the
match away.
The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when they remain
home to host Post in a non-conference contest. Match time is set
for 7 p.m. at the Fieldhouse. Franklin Pierce will honor its senior
class prior to the start of the match.
