SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 25, 2009) – Senior Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas) tallied 18 kills and sophomore Dana Rowinski (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added her second career double-double to lead the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over Millersville in non-conference play at American International’s Butova Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Franklin Pierce dropped a 3-0, Northeast-10 Conference match to AIC.

The Ravens dropped the first set to Millersville, 25-19, before evening things with a 25-13 second-set win. Franklin Pierce again fell behind after a 25-14 third set, before again drawing even with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set. The fifth set could not be settled in regulation, as the Ravens pulled out an 18-16 victory.

Against AIC, Franklin Pierce was swept by scores of 26-24, 25-18 and 25-17. With the split on the afternoon, Franklin Pierce is now 7-17 (3-7 Northeast-10).

Against Millersville, Parnell’s 18 kills led the way offensively, while Rowinski added 10 and senior Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla.) chipped in nine more. Parnell led Franklin Pierce with a .298 hitting percentage (minimum 20 attacks), as she committed four errors over 47 attacks. Junior setter Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) dished out a match-best 42 assists on the afternoon. The highlight of the day for the Franklin Pierce offense was the fourth set, in which it tallied 12 kills to only two errors over 24 attacks to hit .417.

Defensively, Ristow led Franklin Pierce with 20 digs and was joined in double digits by junior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) and Rowinski, who tallied 18 and 14 digs, respectively. For Rowinski, the 14 digs finished off her second career double-double. Senior Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif.) led the club with five blocks (one solo).

For Millersville, freshman Ami Killinger led the way with 13 kills, while sophomore Allison Huss added 12 of her own and Kristin Anderson picked up another nine. The trio and the rest of the Marauders offense worked off the set of senior Meredith Sinback, who handed out 41 assists. Sinback added four service aces, as Millersville served up 12 aces in the match. On the defensive side of the net, Sinback and Huss led four Marauders in double digits with 13 digs, as Huss finished off a double-double. Killinger matched Feldmeth’s total with five blocks (one solo).

Against American International, Parnell again led the offense, this time with 10 kills, while Walker collected 30 assists. Defensively, Kohout led all players with 17 digs, while Rowinski added 13 digs and narrowly missed another double-double with eight kills. Both Parnell and junior Kelly Mahoney (Wakefield, R.I.) each tallied three block assists.

For AIC, it was freshman Taila de Souza who led the way with 18 kills. She committed just three errors over 34 attacks to lead the Yellow Jackets with a .441 hitting percentage. Sophomore Ellisha Terry nearly joined de Souza in double figures, as she tallied nine kills of her own. Sophomore setter Kervelle Redhead ran the AIC offense and dished out a match-high 35 assists to go with her four kills, nine digs and three aces. Defensively, Terry led the way with 13 digs to narrowly miss a double-double, while junior Alicia Smith led all players with six blocks (one solo).

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 27, when they return home to host Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fieldhouse in Rindge, N.H.
