Volleyball Sweeps Assumption, 3-0
Ristow and Feldmeth both tally double digits for Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (October 16,
2009) – Senior Katie Ristow (Miami,
Fla.) hammered out 12 kills and fellow senior
Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif.) added 10
of her own on Friday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University
volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Assumption in Northeast-10
Conference play at Franklin Pierce’s Fieldhouse. Junior Aimee
Drainville and senior Jessica Haller led Assumption with six kills
apiece in defeat.
The Ravens opened the match with a 25-10 victory in the first set
and followed it up with 25-22 and 25-14 victories in the second and
third sets, respectively. With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to
6-15 (3-5 Northeast-10), while Assumption falls to 1-14 (0-8
Northeast-10) with the loss.
Ristow and Feldmeth led the way for Franklin Pierce with their
double-digit kill totals, while senior Caitlynn Parnell
(Medina, Texas) added seven more. Feldmeth posted a
match-best .444 hitting percentage, with just two errors over 18
attacks. The offense ran through the set of junior Pamela
Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.), who chalked up a match-high
29 assists, including 12 in the second set. The Ravens racked up a
team-season-best 13 aces on the evening, including four each from
Parnell and junior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison
Township, Mich.).
Defensively, Kohout (18 digs) and Parnell (14) led the way for
Franklin Pierce, while Feldmeth recorded a match-best three blocks
(one solo).
For Assumption, it was Drainville and Haller who led the offense,
as they worked off the set of senior Kelly Blumenauer, who tallied
13 assists. On the defensive side of the net, freshman libero Steph
Whooten led the Greyhounds with 16 digs, while sophomore Kristen
Lamoureux picked up a pair of blocks (one solo).
The Ravens started off like a house afire in the first set, as
they hit .423, with 13 kills and two errors over 26 attacks. The
match opened with three straight kills for Ristow, as Franklin
Pierce ran off the first five points of the game on the serve of
Parnell. Later, the Ravens would stretch a 13-7 lead to 21-7 with
eight more consecutive points behind Parnell’s serve. In all,
Parnell tallied three of her four aces in the opening set, while
Ristow chalked up six kills.
Later, Franklin Pierce put the match away in the third set,
despite hitting only .037. Trailing 6-5 early in the set, the
Ravens rattled off 15 of the next 18 points off a host of
Assumption errors to take a 20-9 lead on their way to the 25-14
victory and a 3-0 sweep of the match.
The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when they
travel to Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Match
time is set for 7 p.m. at Merkert Gymnasium in Easton, Mass.
