RINDGE, N.H. (October 7,
2009) – Sophomore Dana Rowinski (Dix Hills,
N.Y.) tied for the match lead with 10 kills and added 11
digs on Wednesday night to record her first career double-double
and lead the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team to a 3-0
sweep of Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin
Pierce’s Fieldhouse. Sophomore Charlotte Tencza matched
Rowinski with 10 kills for Saint Anselm in defeat.
Franklin Pierce took a hotly-contested first set, 27-25, before
finishing out the match with a pair of 25-18 victories in the
second and third sets. With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to
5-13 (2-4 Northeast-10), while Saint Anselm falls to 5-10 (1-6
Northeast-10) with the loss.
For Franklin Pierce, Rowinski led the way offensively with her 10
kills, while senior Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena,
Calif.) added eight kills of her own with just one error
over 11 attacks to rack up a match-best .636 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.)
dished out 31 assists on the evening (10.33 per set), while senior
Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas) picked up a
match-best three service aces without an error over 13 serves.
Defensively, Feldmeth led the Ravens with five block assists and
Parnell added four blocks of her own (one solo) as the team
collected nine blocks in the match, one off its season high. Junior
libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.)
led the Ravens with 13 digs, while Rowinski added 11 of her own to
complete the first double-double of her career.
For Saint Anselm, Tencza led the way with 10 kills, while no other
Hawk mustered more than three. The offense ran through the set of
sophomore Rachel Flaherty, who handed out 21 assists on the
evening. Defensively, freshman Margaret Tereschuk led all players
with 19 digs and was joined in double digits by Tencza, who picked
up 12 digs to finish her own double-double. Sophomore Stephanie
Mauer led the Hawks with three blocks (one solo).
Trailing 23-24 late in a back-and-forth third set, the Ravens got a
gift on a Saint Anselm service error to even the set at 24-24.
Parnell then stuffed a Tencza attack to record a block, give
Franklin Pierce a 25-24 and force Saint Anselm to take its second
timeout of the set. Out of the timeout, junior Ashley Hopkins and
junior Stephanie Devlin recorded a block to draw Saint Anselm even
at 25-25. However, consecutive kills by Parnell and Walker would
give the Ravens the 27-25 victory.
Franklin Pierce enjoyed its best offensive set of the match in the
second set, as the team amassed 15 kills to six errors over 39
attacks to hit .231. Franklin Pierce put the hammer down in the
middle of the set, as they won 11 points in a 13-point stretch
behind the serve of Walker and senior Katie Ristow (Miami,
Fla.) to turn an 11-11 tie into a 22-13 lead en route to
the 25-18 victory.
The Ravens opened up a 15-7 lead to start the third set, including
three separate three-point runs, and never looked back as they went
on to the 25-18 third-set victory to put away the match.
The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they host
Merrimack and C.W. Post in a tri-match at the Fieldhouse. Franklin
Pierce will take on Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference match at
1 p.m. and will entertain C.W. Post in a non-conference affair at 5
p.m. In between, Merrimack and C.W. Post will square off at 3 p.m.
