Volleyball Blanked By American International, 3-0, In Home Opener

RINDGE, N.H. (September 8,
2009) – Sophomore Ellisha Terry led the way with
nine kills and added eight digs on Tuesday night to lead American
International to a 3-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University
volleyball team in non-conference play at Franklin Pierce’s
Fieldhouse. Senior Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla.)
collected eight kills and eight digs in the loss for Franklin
Pierce.
American International ran away with the first two sets by scores
of 25-16 and 25-13, respectively. The Ravens mustered an attack in
the third set, but were clipped, 25-22, to finish off the
sweep.
For AIC, Terry led the way offensively with nine kills and four
errors on 26 attacks (.192 hitting percentage) and also tacked on
eight digs to narrowly miss a double-double. She worked primarily
off the set of sophomore Kervelle Redhead, who tied for the match
lead with 20 assists. Defensively, senior libero Jenn Hormann led
the Yellow Jackets with a match-high 15 digs, while junior Alicia
Smith tallied a match-best six blocks (two solo).
For Franklin Pierce, Ristow chalked up eight kills and eight digs
to narrowly miss a double-double of her own. The Ravens offense ran
through junior setter Pamela Walker (Chino Hills,
Calif.), who matched Redhead with 20 assists. Defensively,
it was sophomore Dana Rowinski (Dix Hills, N.Y.)
who led the way for Franklin Pierce with nine digs.
The first two sets were all American International, as Franklin
Pierce posted negative hitting percentages in both sets. Terry
hammered out five of her nine kills in the first set to set the
pace early for American International, while Redhead dished out 17
of her 20 assists in the first two sets.
The Ravens got it together offensively in the third set, as senior
Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas) hammered out all
five of her kills and posted a .429 hitting percentage. Walker
dished out nearly half of her helpers in the final set, with nine
assists. However, it wasn’t enough, as Smith notched three of
her blocks in the third set and three Yellow Jackets tallied three
kills each to help American International finish out the match.
For the match, American International posted a .212 hitting
percentage with 35 kills and 14 errors over 99 attempts. Franklin
Pierce hit -.009 in the match, with 27 kills and 28 errors in 106
attack attempts.
The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they
host Concordia (N.Y.) and Merrimack in a tri-match. Franklin Pierce
will host Concordia at 11 a.m. and Merrimack at 3 p.m. In between,
Merrimack and Concordia will square off at 1 p.m.
