Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season With 3-1 Loss At Stonehill

RINDGE, N.H. (November 8, 2008) – Freshman Michelle Thornhill (Canyon Lake, Calif./Temescal Canyon) piled up 20 kills and 16 digs on Saturday afternoon to lead Stonehill to a 3-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Merkert Gymnasium. Senior Nicole Buchholz (Broadlands, Va./Stone Bridge) led the Ravens in defeat with 11 kills.

Franklin Pierce took the first set, 25-18, but was swept from there, as the Ravens dropped the next three sets, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-21, respectively.

Buchholz led the Ravens with 11 kills on the afternoon and was joined in double digits offensively by sophomore Diana Rutt (Dayton, Nev./Dayton), who collected 10 kills. Senior Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) organized the Franklin Pierce attack with 40 assists. Defensively, sophomore Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) and junior Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) each found their way to double figures with 19 and 16 digs, respectively.

For Stonehill, Thornhill led all players with 20 kills while senior Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass./New Bedford) contributed 14 kills. The Skyhawks ran the offense through sophomore Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary’s), who dished out a match-best 53 assists. On the defensive side of the ball, Thornhill and Wirth completed double-doubles with 16 and 12 digs, respectively, while sophomore Therese Mance (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior) led the way with a match-high 21 digs. Sophomore Laura Noonan (Hampstead, N.H./Bishop Guertin) led all players with five blocks (two solo).

Franklin Pierce (17-17, 8-6 NE-10) and Stonehill (20-10, 8-6 NE-10) both finished up their regular season schedules with Saturday’s match. Both teams have qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, to be hosted next weekend by Pace in Pleasantville, N.Y. Quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, while the semifinal and final rounds will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15.
