Volleyball Pushes Past C.W. Post, 3-1

Schultz leads offense with 12 kills

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (October 25, 2008) – Senior Emily Schultz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) collected 12 kills on Saturday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over C.W. Post in non-conference play at Pratt Recreation Center. Freshman Laura Maehlmann (Gundelfingen, Germany) led four C.W. Post players in double figures with a match-best 16 kills.

Franklin Pierce won the first two sets, 25-19 and 28-26, before C.W. Post extended the match with a 25-19 win in the third set. The Ravens then put the match away with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.

For Franklin Pierce, Schultz led a balanced offensive attack with 12 kills working off the set of senior Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo), who dished out a match-best 33 assists. Sophomore Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) led the defensive efforts with a match-high 18 digs while senior Nicole Buchholz (Broadlands, Va./Stone Bridge) collected four blocks (two solo).

For C.W. Post, junior Sammy Figliolia (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) had a team-best 16 digs to go with 12 kills while senior Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) posted 20 assists and 13 kills as both notched double-doubles. Maehlmann led the offense with 16 kills while junior Erica Valeriano (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./Adelphi) led the Pioneers with 31 assists. Sophomore Lauren Brown (Mount Gilead, N.C./West Montgomery) matched Buchholz with four blocks of her own (two solo).

The Ravens (15-15, 7-4 NE-10) return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 1, when they return home for their final home matches of the season on against New Haven at 12 p.m. and NYIT at 3 p.m. at the Fieldhouse in Rindge, N.H. C.W. Post (10-11, 7-5 ECC) returns to action on Oct. 28 at home against Molloy.
