Three Ravens collect double-doubles

Friday night at Bridgeport.

Killian) and senior Emily
Schultz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) all tallied
double-doubles on Friday night, but the Franklin Pierce University
volleyball team was defeated, 3-2, by Bridgeport in non-conference
play at Harvey Hubble Gymnasium. Four Bridgeport players notched
double-doubles of their own in the victory.
The two teams alternated wins throughout the five sets. Bridgeport
took the first, 25-18, before Franklin Pierce tied things up with a
30-28 win in the second set. Bridgeport won the fourth, 25-23, and
then Franklin Pierce extended the match with a 28-26, fourth-set
victory. Bridgeport put the match away with a 15-5 win in the fifth
set.
For Franklin Pierce, senior Nicole
Buchholz (Broadlands, Va./Stone Bridge) led four Ravens in
double figures with 18 kills on the evening. Schultz, junior Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena,
Calif./South Pasadena) and Ristow followed with 15, 11 and
10 kills, respectively. The offense ran through the set of
Hookstadt, who dished out 52 assists and also chipped in 15 digs
defensively to post a double-double. Sophomore Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township,
Mich./L’Anse Creuse) led five Ravens in double digits
defensively with a match-high 29 digs while Buchholz chalked up a
match-best six blocks (two solo). Schultz and Ristow used 15 and 11
digs, respectively, to complete their double-doubles.
For Bridgeport, four Purple Knights posted double-digit dig totals,
led by 18 from junior Olga Sidorva (Ekaterinburg, Russia), who also
added 17 digs for a double-double. Junior Milica Micovic (Belgrade,
Serbia) keyed the offense for Bridgeport with a match-high 54
assists and also contributed 15 digs to notch a double-double of
her own. Sophomore Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) led
the defense with 25 digs and added 17 kills while junior Juliana
Moraes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) contributed 17 kills and 12 digs as
each collected double-doubles.
The Ravens (14-15, 7-4 NE-10) return to the court on Saturday, Oct.
25, when they travel to C.W. Post for a non-conference contest.
Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Pratt Recreation Center in
Brookville, N.Y. Franklin Pierce returns home for its final home
matches of the season on Nov. 1 against New Haven at 12 p.m. and
NYIT at 3 p.m. Bridgeport (18-11, 9-4 ECC) returns to action on
Oct. 28 at Bloomfield.
