Volleyball Sweeps Away Carson-Newman, Augusta State At Swamp Fox Invitational
Ravens finish the weekend 3-1

FLORENCE, S.C. (September 20, 2008)
– Senior Emily Schultz
(Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) tallied 10 kills in one match
and six kills with 10 digs in another on Saturday to lead the
Franklin Pierce University volleyball team to a pair of 3-0 wins at
the Swamp Fox Invitational hosted by Francis Marion. Franklin
Pierce downed Carson-Newman in the first match of the day before
posting a victory over Augusta State in the afternoon. With the
wins, Franklin Pierce finished the two-day tournament with a 3-1
record.
In Saturday morning’s match, the Ravens defeated
Carson-Newman by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-15.
Schultz and fellow senior Nicole
Buchholz (Broadlands, Pa./Stone Bridge) led the Franklin
Pierce offense in the first match of the day with six kills apiece
while junior Megan Feldmeth (South
Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) chipped in five kills of
her own. Schultz reached double figures with 10 digs and Buchholz
added four digs, three solo blocks and a service ace. Senior Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo,
Calif./Adolfo Cam
arillo) dished out 27 assists in the morning match.
On Saturday afternoon, the Ravens swept Augusta State by scores of
25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.
Junior Katie Ristow (Miami,
Fla./Miami Killian) narrowly missed a double-double in the
day’s second match with 10 kills and nine digs, while
contributing a pair of solo blocks as well. Schultz and junior
Caitlynn Parnell (Medina,
Texas/Medina) joined Ristow in double figures with 10 kills
each. Hookstadt handed out 40 assists in the afternoon tilt.
The Ravens (6-8, 1-1 NE-10) return to the court on Tuesday,
September 23, when they return home to host Massachusetts Lowell in
a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Match time is scheduled for 7
p.m. at the Fieldhouse in Rindge, N.H.
