Schultz sets tone for Ravens with a career-high 39 assists

Caitlynn Parnell posted a 13-kill, 13-dig double-double against Saint Michael's on Wednesday.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 18, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce women’s volleyball team posted its third consecutive victory, sweeping Saint Michael’s College, 3-0 (30-25, 31-29, 30-22) in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse.

Freshman Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) led a balanced Franklin Pierce attack, posting a match-high 13 kills and 13 digs. Classmate Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian SHS) added 11 kills and 11 digs in the victory, while sophomore Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) notched ten kills, six digs, and three solo blocks. Junior transfer Ashley Krausz (Centralia, Ill./Centralia/Rend Lake) was also solid in her first start of the season, posting a .750 hitting percentage with six kills in eight attempts (no errors).

Sophomore Emily Schultz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) paced the Ravens offensively, dishing out a career-high 39 assists to go with 14 digs and three service aces. Senior captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) led the Ravens defensively, totaling a team-high 20 digs.

Sophomore Justine Fletcher (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) led Saint Michael’s with a team-high nine kills and five blocks, while junior Leslie Herwig (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) chipped in with seven kills and four blocks. Sophomore setter Amy Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) recorded 28 assists for the Purple Knights, while classmate Stephanie Smetana (Independence, Mo./Truman) notched a match-high 23 digs despite the loss.

Franklin Pierce (14-6, 8-4 NE-10) will be in action again on Friday as it travels to Bryant University for a tri-match with Dowling College starting at 4 p.m. Saint Michael’s (8-12, 2-10 NE-10) will participate in the Skidmore Tournament on Friday at 8 p.m.
