Franklin Pierce Tops Southern Connecticut, 3-1
Parnell posts a season-best 19 kills in Ravens victory

RINDGE, N.H. (October 13, 2006) –
The Franklin Pierce women’s volleyball team registered a 3-1
victory (30-25, 27-30, 30-23, 30-23) over Southern Connecticut
State University in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening at
the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse.
Freshman Caitlynn Parnell
(Medina, Texas/Medina) led the Franklin Pierce attack,
posting a season-high 19 kills (season-best .447 hitting
percentage) to go with 12 digs and two service aces. Sophomore
Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn,
Va./Stone Bridge) recorded 14 kills and five blocks in the
victory, while freshman Katie
Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian SHS) added 11 kills, ten
digs, and six blocks.
Sophomores Karissa Hookstadt
(Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) and Emily Schultz (Salem, Wis./Westosha
Central) paced the Ravens offensively, combining for 58
assists on the match. Hookstadt led the way with a match-high 43
assists, while Schultz chipped in with six kills and 15 dishes.
Senior captain Michelle McConnell
(Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) led the Ravens
defensively, totaling a match-high 19 digs.
Sophomore Nekane Mendizabal (Stratford, Conn./Alderson-Broaddus)
led Southern Connecticut with a team-high 15 kills, five blocks,
and 13 digs. Classmate Kiersten Pry (Trumball, Conn./Trumball) was
also solid, posting ten kills and 19 digs, while sophomore setter
Ashley Coombs (Trumball, Conn./Trumball) chipped in with a
team-high 18 assists and seven digs.
Franklin Pierce (13-6, 7-4 NE-10) will be in action again on
Wednesday as it hosts Saint Michael’s College at 7 p.m.
Southern Connecticut State (7-14, 2-6 NE-10) will travel to Bentley
College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
