Fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce Rallies Past Fourth-Seeded Massachusetts Lowell, 3-2
Corbin sparks Ravens first Northeast-10 Conference Tournament victory

and a pair of blocks on Friday night against Massachusetts

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (November 11, 2005)
– Fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce rallied past fourth-seeded
Massachusetts Lowell, 3-2 (30-17, 24-30, 30-26, 23-30, 17-15) in
the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Quarterfinals held at
Pace University this evening. This marks the Ravens first post
season victory since joining the conference in 2000.
Franklin Piece outside-hitter Erin Corbin (Feeding Hills,
Mass./Agawam) was the fire starter for the Ravens. The
senior totaled a career-high eight kills, to go along with two digs
and two blocks.
Freshman Nicole Buchholz
(Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge), junior Christina Collett (Tombstone,
Ariz./Tombstone) and senior Jessica Ward (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School) were also solid for the Ravens. The trio combined
for 35 kills in the match. Buchholz and Collett led the way with 12
kills each, while Ward contributed 11 kills and five digs.
Freshman Karissa Hookstadt
(Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) also highlighted the Franklin
Pierce offense. The rookie setter recorded 38 assists in the match,
while also chipping in with seven digs, six kills and five
blocks.
UMass Lowell senior, Julie Handy (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza)
led the River Hawks, totaling a game high 27 kills in the match up.
Junior setter Caitlin Harte (East Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) posted
a tournament high 63 assists despite the loss.
Franklin Pierce (14-12, 9-5 NE-10 NE-10) advances to
Saturday’s semifinal round where it will face top-seeded
Bentley College (26-6, 14-0 NE-10) The Falcons advanced this
afternoon with a 3-0 victory over eighth-seeded Pace University.
UMass Lowell falls to 19-9 overall with today’s setback.
