Franklin Pierce Blanks Assumption, 3-0

Ravens snap four-match home losing streak

RINDGE, N.H. (Oct. 14, 2004) – The Franklin Pierce volleyball team posted a 3-0 (30-25, 33-31, 30-16) victory over Assumption College tonight in Northeast-10 competition, breaking a four-match home losing streak. With the win, the Ravens improve their overall record to 8-10 and their league mark to 5-7. The Greyhounds drop to 4-14 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

A pair of sophomore outside hitters led Franklin Pierce to their third win in four chances. Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) posted 13 kills and six digs, while Christina Collett (Tombstone, Ariz./Tombstone) tallied 15 kills and three digs. The junior duo of co-captain Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) and Jessica Ward (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) were active on the defensive end for the Ravens, recording 25 and 14 digs respectively. Freshman Bria Williams (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) racked up 27 assists, three aces, six digs and two blocks.

The Greyhounds received eleven kills apiece from sophomore Kristen McCafferty (Tyngsboro, Mass./Notre Dame) and junior Tess Wurm (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford), while Lindy Dhulst (Portland, Or./Central Catholic) led the offense with 27 assists. The duo of freshman Lauren Raswyck (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell) and junior Beth Hordern (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case) were solid on the defensive end for Assumption, collecting 23 and 21 digs respectively.

Franklin Pierce (8-10, 5-7 NE-10) will next be in action on Tuesday when they host Teikyo Post University for a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m. Assumption (4-14, 1-9 NE-10) will also play on Tuesday, as they will play host to the Yellow Jackets of American International College starting at 7 p.m.
