Franklin Pierce Splits a Pair at Home
Ravens fall to Saint Anselm, 3-2, and defeat Southern Connecticut, 3-1
Rindge, N.H. (Oct. 18, 2003) –
The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team split its home
double-header with a 3-2 loss to Saint Anselm and 3-1 victory over
Southern Connecticut in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action
at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse this afternoon.
The Ravens fell to Saint Anselm, 3-2 in their first match of the
day. Junior Aimee Young (W. Springfield, Mass./W. Springfield) led
the Hawks with 16 kills while freshman setter Kathleen McCarthy
(Quincy, Mass./Quincy) helped out with 50 assists and sophomore
Carley Hughey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) recorded a team-best 15
digs.
Christina Collett (Tombstone,
Ariz./Tombstone) totaled a match-high 29 kills with one ace
and 21 digs despite the loss and senior setter Bethany Findley (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) registered 60 assists. Sophomore Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) led the Ravens’ defense with 37 digs.
In their second contest of the day, Franklin Pierce defeated
Southern Connecticut 30-20, 30-25, 25-30, 30-20. Collett led the
attack with 15 kills and served three aces with six digs. Findley
posted 39 helpers while Vece had 14 digs.
Sophomore Chanel Gardiner (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) led the Owls
with 14 kills and four blocks while Rachel Pitino (Wolcott,
Conn./Wolcott) posted 11 kills and four service aces and Jess
Hernandez (Milford, Conn./Foran) recorded 34 assists.
The Ravens (10-11, 4-9 NE-10) return to action tomorrow when they
travel to Keene State for a non-Conference match at 7 p.m.
