Franklin Pierce Dominates at Stonehill Invitational
Ravens post back-to-back 3-0 wins over Stonehill and Bridgeport
EASTON, MASS. (Oct 26, 2002) - The
Franklin Pierce University volleyball team posted back-to-back 3-0
victories to go 2-0 at the Stonehill Invitational this
afternoon.
The Ravens opened up the Invitational with a shutout win over
Stonehill, defeating the Chieftains, 30-27, 31-29, 30-26.
Senior Mandy Johnson (Orange,
Mass./Maher Regional) led the attack with 14 kills, while
sophomore Briana Bates (Belmont,
N.H./Endicott College) followed close behind with 13. Senior
Catrina Cuevas (Aurora, Colo./J.I.
O'Neill (N.Y.)) and junior Bethany Findley (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) combined for 33 helpers, while freshman Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) led the defense with 13 digs.
In the second match of the afternoon, the Ravens defeated the
University of Bridgeport, 30-28, 30-25, and 30-22. Johnson led the
offense once again with a team-best 20 kills, five aces and three
digs. Bates recorded another 13-kill outing, while Vece tallied
eight digs in the win.
Franklin Pierce (12-9, 4-7 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday,
when it travels to Southern Connecticut State University for a
Northeast-10 Conference match at 7 p.m.
