Franklin Pierce Outlasts Saint Michael's, 3-1
RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 21, 2002) - The
Franklin Pierce University volleyball team recorded a 3-1 win over
Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball
action at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse this afternoon.
The Ravens recorded two-straight 30-26 wins in the first two games
of the match, but fell behind 26-19 in game three. The team mounted
an incredible comeback, closing the gap to 28-26, but the Purple
Knights recorded two back-to-back points to seal their only win of
the match.
Senior Mandy Johnson (Orange,
Mass./Maher Regional) tallied 21 kills, three aces and 14
digs to lead the Ravens. Classmate Catrina Cuevas (Aurora, Colo./J.I. O'Neill
(N.Y.)) added eight kills, 17 assists and 20 digs in the
win.
Junior setter Bethany Findley
(Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) dished 20 assists, while
sophomore Briana Bates (Belmont,
N.H./Endicott College) added 12 kills and four blocks.
Saint Michael's was led by junior Heather Frame, who totaled 32
assists. Sophomore Stephanie Robbins recorded 33 digs, while
classmate Lindsey Shumway posted 12 kills.
Franklin Pierce (5-4, 2-2 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when
it hosts Bentley College in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 7
p.m. Saint Michael's (5-4, 0-1 NE-10) next visits Saint Anselm
College on Saturday, Sept. 28, for a tri-match with Southern New
Hampshire starting at noon.
