FP Suffers Back-to-Back Losses at Bridgeport Tourney
Ravens fall 3-2 against Southern New Hampshire and University of Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (Sept. 6, 2002) - The
Franklin Pierce University volleyball team suffered two tough 3-2
losses at the Bridgeport Tournament in non-conference volleyball
action this evening in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The Ravens lost a close 3-2 contest to Southern New Hampshire
University in their first match up of the season. Senior Mandy Johnson (Orange, Mass./Maher
Regional) registered 20 kills and three blocks, while
classmate Catrina Cuevas (Boulder,
Colo./J.J. O'Neill N.Y.) totaled 11 kills to go along with
24 assists, five service aces and seven digs.
Sophomore Briana Bates (Belmont,
N.H./Endicott College) added 15 kills and three blocks.
Freshman Tara Vece (Clinton,
Conn./Morgan School) was the team's top defender, recording
11 digs despite the loss.
In the second contest of the afternoon, the women fell to the
University of Bridgeport, 3-2. Johnson led the offense with 17
kills, four digs and six aces. Junior Bethany Findley (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) dished 16 assists and served five aces, while Cuevas
recorded 18 assists and six aces.
The Ravens (0-2, 0-0 NE-10) return to action tomorrow when they
participate in day two of the Bridgeport Tournament.
