Women’s Track & Field Wraps up at New Englands, Participates at BU as Well

Ravens women's track & field

BOSTON (February 5, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team had athletes in action in a pair of Boston locales on Saturday. The Ravens had a duo of throwers in action on the second at final day of the NEICAAA (New England) Championships at Reggie Lewis Center, while other select members of the team were at the BU Track & Tennis Center at Boston University, to partake in the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite.

At New Englands, the Ravens had a pair in action in the shot put on Saturday, as sophomore Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) and senior Samantha DeSouza (Sebago, Maine) finished 14th and 16th, respectively. There were only three centimeters between the two, as Felton posted a distance of 11.09 meters, while DeSouza came up with a throw of 11.06 meters.

Meanwhile, it was a busier day for Franklin Pierce across town at BU. In the 400 meters, junior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) finished 17th (57.25), while senior Saylee Missel placed 42nd (1:00.18). At double the distance, a trio of Ravens took part in the 800 meters: graduate student Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.) was 42nd (2:23.71), sophomore Meghan Sheline (Southington, Conn.) was 63rd (2:33.22), and junior Victoria Van Houten (Wantage, N.J.) was 69th (2:39.96).

At about double the distance again, graduate student Bethaney Donnelly (Manchester, United Kingdom) and senior Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) were both in action in the mile. The former took 41st in 5:07.13, while the latter finished 68th in 5:26.19.

Back on the sprint side of things, Brianha Bouchard was 27th in the 60-meter hurdles (10.14). She also participated in the long jump, where she finished 19th (4.68m). Meanwhile, in the triple jump, senior Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) -- fresh off her New England title in the high jump on Friday -- took ninth (10.84m).

Franklin Pierce is headed back to BU next weekend, with select athletes in action at the David Hemery Valentine Invite on Feb. 11-12. Meanwhile, the rest of the team will head to MIT on Saturday, for the Gordon Kelly Invitational, as the Ravens go through their final tune-ups before the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.
