Women’s Track & Field in Action on First Day of New Englands

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (May 14, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team had select athletes in action at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, on the first day of the NEICAAA Championships (New England Championships). Graduate student Bethaney Donnelly (Manchester, United Kingdom) had the strongest showing of the day for the Ravens, as she took 11th and narrowly missed All-New England honors in the 5k.

The Ravens opened their Friday competition with the pole vault. Junior Stephanie Phoenix (Wallingford, Conn.) was able to get up and over 3.10 meters to finish 20th.

As for the throwers, it was junior Julia Groll (Southington, Conn.) and freshman Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) in the hammer throw in the Hardware City. Groll twirled and fired 39.02 meters to finish 19th, while Felton took 22nd for a heave of 30.49 meters.

The Ravens closed out their participation on Friday with Donnelly taking to the track in the 5000 meters. She turned in a time of 18:07 to finish 11th, and was less than 10 seconds shy of an All-New England performance. The time is currently good for second in the East Region.

The NEICAAA Championships will wrap up on Saturday in New Britain.
