Women’s Track & Field’s Brena Earns All-New England at First Day of NEICAAA Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 10, 2019) – Freshman Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) of the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team earned All-New England honors in the high jump on Friday, leading the way for the Ravens on the first day of the NEICAAA Championships. In all, Franklin Pierce had three athletes compete in four events on the front end of the two-day meet, hosted by Southern Connecticut State.

Brena was one of three participants to get up and over 1.71 meters, but no higher, in the high jump. Via tiebreakers, Brena finished in second place to earn eight points for the team and All-New England accolades for the first time in her career. Through the first day of the meet, the Ravens are in a four-way tie for 12th, out of 33 teams to score so far at the meet.

The Ravens are also assured of two other All-New England performances on Saturday, courtesy of senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.), who qualified for a pair of event finals. She won her heat in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.47) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.77). Telfer qualified with the fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles and third-fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles.

Junior Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) rounded out Franklin Pierce's performance on Friday at SCSU. She finished 21st in the 10,000 meters, with a time of 40:14.15.

The NEICAAA Championships will conclude on Saturday at SCSU.
