Women’s Track & Field 10th After First Day of NE10 Championships
MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 3, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team was in action at Southern New Hampshire on Friday, on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. The Ravens got points from three athletes, while senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) qualified for three finals, and the team is currently 10th out of 11 teams at the two-day meet.
Franklin Pierce's three scoring performances combined for five points on the first day of competition. At the top of the heap, Assumption piled up 53 points on the first day. The Greyhounds were followed by Stonehill in second (45 points) and Saint Rose in third (38 points).
Junior Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) led the way among the three athletes who scored for Franklin Pierce on Friday. She finished sixth in the 10,000 meters, with a time of 39:08.38, to pick up three points.
The Ravens also chalked up one point apiece from senior Kendra Covington (Torrington, Conn.) and junior Savannah Drowne (Athol, Mass.). Covington took eighth in the hammer, with a throw of 39.87 meters, while Drowne chucked the javelin 32.38 meters to finish eighth as well.
Though she did not score any points on Friday, Telfer put herself in position to collect a bunch of points on Saturday. She qualified for the final of three different events, and posted the top qualifying time in each of the three. Telfer ran a time of 56.23 seconds in the 400 meters, 13.63 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 1:03.81 in the 400-meter hurdles. The 100-meter hurdles time represented a new NE10 Championship record, and also met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time in the event.
The NE10 Championships conclude on Saturday at SNHU.
