Women’s Track & Field Fourth at Capital District Classic to Wrap Up Regular Season

TROY, N.Y. (April 27, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team was in the Empire State on Saturday for its final regular-season meet, before heading for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships next weekend. The Ravens finished fourth, of 14 teams, at the Capital District Classic, hosted at Harkness Field by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, on the strength of three event wins and nine top-five victories.

It was 72 points for Franklin Pierce on Saturday on the way to the fourth-place finish. Host RPI took first place at the meet (136 points), followed by Albany in second (120 points) and Plattsburgh State in third (106 points).

Senior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) chalked up two of the three wins on her own, as she took first place in both the long jump (5.16m) and the triple jump (11.50m). Senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) added a first-place finish in the 400 meters as well, with a time of 58.20 seconds, which is currently good for sixth in the NE10.

Junior Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) joined Baah as the other Raven to pick up a pair of top-five finishes on Saturday. Comstock took third in the discus (33.79m) and fourth in the shot put (11.35m).

Elsewhere, Franklin Pierce added a pair of second-place finishes, a third-place finish and a fifth-place finish to round out the collection of top-five finishes on the day. Finishing second were junior Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) in the 5000 meters (19:17.07) and freshman Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) in the 800 meters (2:21.78). Junior Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) took second in the 5000 meters (19:39.07) behind Cormier, while junior Olivia Mabbett (Milford, N.H.) finished fifth in the high jump (1.45m).

The Ravens return to action on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, when they travel to the NE10 Championships, to be hosted by Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, N.H.
