RINDGE, N.H. (March 5, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University cross country and track & field programs have been busy hauling in awards in recent weeks. Over the course of February and early March, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced multiple awards selections, all of which have featured Ravens as honorees. These include academic awards for the cross country season, as well as All-Region performers and Regional award winners for the indoor track & field season.

The first of the awards to be announced were the All-Academic awards for this past fall’s cross country season. At the team level, both the Franklin Pierce men’s and women’s cross country programs earned All-Academic honors, which are bestowed on teams which post a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and score at their respective NCAA Championship Regional meet. For the Ravens, the men were honored with a GPA of 3.33, while the women posted a 3.27. It marked the fifth straight season Franklin Pierce has had both programs honored.

Meanwhile, the USTFCCCA announced its individual All-Academic awards for the cross country season as well. Individual All-Academic accolades are awarded to those with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, who either place in the top 30% of the field at an NCAA Regional, or in the top half of the field at the national championship meet. Franklin Pierce had a total of seven All-Academic picks, including a program-record five honorees on the men’s side: freshman Wil Aylward (Peabody, Mass.), freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.), junior Walker John (Boscawen, N.H.), sophomore Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.) and sophomore Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.). For the women, juniors Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) and Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H) each earned the honor.

On the track & field front, the USTFCCCA recently announced its All-Region honorees and major regional awards for the indoor season. The Ravens piled up 11 All-Region accolades, which are awarded to the top five individuals in each event in their respective.

The regional announcement was highlighted by the selection of senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) as East Region Track Athlete of the Year, as voted on by USTFCCCA member coaches. It is the fourth major regional award in the history of Franklin Pierce track & field, and the first on the women’s side of things. Dage Minors ’17 was a three-time selection as East Region Track Athlete of the Year for the men’s program, including two indoor accolades and one outdoor honor.

Telfer led the way among the Ravens’ All-Region recipients, as she was honored for her marks in six different events: the 60-meter hurdles (8.33), the high jump (1.65m), the 200-meter dash (24.08), the pentathlon (3735 points), the 400 meters (55.76) and the 60-meter dash (7.57). Joining her on the All-Region docket for the women’s program were senior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) in the triple jump (11.77m), freshman Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) in the high jump (1.70m) and freshman Stephanie Phoenix (Wallingford, Conn.) in the pole vault (3.20m).

The men had a pair of All-East Region selections as well. Sophomore Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) was honored in the 800 meters (1:49.76), while junior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) earned the accolade in the 400 meters (48.35).

Arlabosse, Brena and Telfer are slated to represent the Ravens at the NCAA Championships later this week. The meet is scheduled for Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, and will be hosted by Pittsburg State University at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan.
