Telfer Claims Three Titles; Women’s Track & Field Takes Sixth at NE10 Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (February 17, 2019) – Senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) won three Northeast-10 Conference titles on Sunday, to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team and earn Most Outstanding Track Athlete honors at the NE10 Championships, hosted by American International College, on the campus of Smith College. In all, the Ravens tallied four league titles and five top-three finishes on the second day of the meet to finish sixth, out of 12 teams. It was the highest NE10 Championships finish in program history.

Franklin Pierce finished the meet with 52 points, which left the team just two points in back of Saint Rose for what would have been the first top-five finish in program history. At the top of the field, Stonehill (166 points) took home its sixth straight NE10 indoor title, while Assumption (120 points) followed in second and Southern Connecticut State (68 points) took third.

The Ravens posted a 49.5-point day on Sunday, and Telfer took care of 31.5 of those herself. She claimed 10 points apiece for the crimson and grey by winning the NE10 titles in the 60-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. Telfer met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard in all three events, with a time of 7.63 seconds in the 60-meter dash, 24.45 seconds in the 200-meter dash, and 8.49 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. The hurdles time broke her own NE10 Championships record, which had been set in Saturday's preliminary heats.

Telfer added another 1.5 points in the high jump, where she cleared 1.56 meters to finish in a tie for seventh. She became the first student-athlete in the history of Franklin Pierce track & field, men's or women's, to earn Most Outstanding Athlete honors at an NE10 Championship.

Franklin Pierce's remaining NE10 title came in the high jump, where freshman Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) usurped the throne in her NE10 Championship debut. She got up and over 1.66 meters to take first place and pick up 10 more points.

Senior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) posted an NCAA provisional mark of her own in the triple jump, as she finished third with a hop, skip and jump total of 11.64 meters. The performance was good for six points for the team.

The Ravens also picked up solo points with eighth-place finishes from junior Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) and the 4x800-meter relay team. Comstock took eighth in the shot put (11.95m), while the relay squad of freshman Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.), freshman Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.), junior Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) and junior Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) finished eighth with a time of 10:22.92.

The Ravens are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 24, when they travel to Boston University for the BU Last Chance Meet, which – as the name implies – is the final opportunity to post marks to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
