Telfer Shines Again for Women’s Track & Field at John Thomas Terrier Classic

BOSTON (January 25, 2019) – Senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) hit the NCAA Championships automatic qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles yet again on Friday, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.

Telfer put together a time of 8.40 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles on Friday at BU. It marked the fourth time this season she had eclipsed the NCAA Championships automatic qualifying mark of 8.42 seconds. Telfer is currently ranked second in the nation in the event.

Two other Ravens turned in performances worth nothing on the track on Friday. In the 800 meters, freshman Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) ran a 2:24.29 to finish 76th. The time currently ranks 12th in the Northeast-10 Conference. Meanwhile, in the 1000 meters, sophomore Lauren Stankiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) narrowly missed the top-50, with a 54th-place finish of 3:30.16.

Franklin Pierce also saw success in field events at BU. In the high jump, freshman Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) got up and over 1.65 meters to crack the top 10 with a ninth-place finish. Farther back in the high jump field, junior Olivia Mabbett (Milford, N.H.) matched her season best with a mark of 1.55 meters, to finish 19th.

Senior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) made her way into the top-15 in the triple jump, with a hop, skip and jump of 11.20 meters, which was good enough for 13th place. Elsewhere, in the weight throw, it was 25th place for senior Kendra Covington (Torrington, Conn.), who posted a throw of 13.71 meters.

The Ravens return to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, when they return to Boston for the NEICAAA Championships. On Feb. 2, Franklin Pierce will send those who aren't qualified for NEICAAAs off to Plymouth State University, for the Panther Invitational.
