Two School Records Fall, Women’s Track & Field Seventh After First Day of NE10 Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 4, 2018) – Senior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Alyssa Harris (Billerica, Mass.) each set program records on Friday to highlight the day for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State at Jess Dow Field.

Through the first day of the two-day competition, the Ravens have collected 11 points and sit seventh, out of 12 teams to score. Stonehill leads the way, with 91 points, and holds nearly a 40-point edge over Assumption, which is second with 54.5 points. Host SCSU is third, with 47.5 points.

Franklin Pierce's scoring on Friday came courtesy of two throwing performances. Quinn picked up six points in the hammer throw, as she finished third with a school-record throw of 52.79 meters. Meanwhile, Gagnon tallied five points with a fourth-place finish in the javelin, as she recorded a throw of 40.18 meters. Quinn's mark met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard in the hammer.

The Ravens are also already assured of points on Saturday, as graduate student Nicole Galewski (Whitman, Mass.) has qualified for the final in the 100-meter hurdles. She qualified second, as her time of 14.92 seconds was good enough to win the second of three preliminary heats. Galewski also saw success in the heptathlon on Friday, as she won the heptathlon edition of the 100-meter hurdles (14.95) and finished second in the heptathlon's shot put (10.70m).

Harris did not score on Friday, but still put together a school-record run of 12.51 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash. She finished 11th, narrowly missing out on Saturday's eight-runner final.

The Northeast-10 Championships wrap up on Saturday at SCSU.
