Throwers Lead Women’s Track & Field at UNF Spring Break Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 23, 2018) – Four top-15 throwing performances, led by a fifth-place finish from senior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) led the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field program on Friday, as the Ravens opened the outdoor season at the UNF Spring Break Invitational, hosted by University of North Florida.

Quinn's fifth-place finish came in the hammer throw, with a mark of 49.39 meters. It was one of three top-10 finishes on the day for the Ravens, as Quinn was joined by senior Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) in the javelin and sophomore Olivia Mabbett (Milford, N.H.) in the high jump. Gagnon was sixth, with a throw of 36.28 meters, while Mabbett cleared 1.55 meters to finish ninth.

In all, Franklin Pierce turned in seven top-25 performances on the day, including two more behind Gagnon in the javelin. Sophomore Savannah Drowne (Athol, Mass.) placed 14th, with a throw of 30.73 meters, while graduate student Nicole Galewski (Whitman, Mass.) finished 15th, with a heave of 29.81 meters.

Galewski turned in a pair of top-20 finishes at UNF. She also placed 20th in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.38 seconds.

Sophomore Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) rounded out the top-25 performances with a 25th place finish in the 5000 meters, by turning in a time of 19:36.29.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, April 7, when they travel to the CGA Spring Invitational, hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.
