Women’s Track & Field Finishes 11th at Northeast-10 Championships

NORTHAMPTION, Mass. (February 18, 2018) – Sophomore Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) posted a school record in the shot put on Sunday to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on the second and final day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. The two-day meet was held on the campus of Smith College, and hosted by American International College.

In all, Franklin Pierce collected 15 points on the weekend to finish 11th, out of 12 teams. At the top of the pack, Stonehill (165 points) claimed its fifth straight NE10 indoor title, while Southern Connecticut State (118 points) finished second and host AIC placed third (99 points).

Comstock had the best individual finish of the second day for the Ravens, as she came up with a heave of 12.75 meters in the shot put to establish a new school record. The throw was good enough for sixth place and picked up three points for the Ravens.

"Katey Comstock was a physical and emotional beast today," said head coach Zach Emerson of the performance. "She's truly a special athlete and we can't wait to see her break even more records this outdoor season."

Franklin Pierce also got three points courtesy of the 4x800-meter relay team, which also finished sixth. A lineup of sophomore Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.), freshman Megan Holland (Clermont, Fla.), sophomore Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) and senior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.) turned in a time of 10:07.94.

The Ravens had one other individual pick up a point on Sunday to round out their scoring at the meet. Junior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) put together a triple jump mark of 11.09 meters to finish eighth.

The meet capped off the NE10's indoor track & field season. The Ravens may send select individuals to Boston University next weekend for the Last Chance Meet on Sunday, Feb. 25. The meet is named as such, because it represents the final opportunity for student-athletes to post marks to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
