Baah Goes Big in Triple Jump for Track & Field on Second Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA (April 28, 2017) – Sophomore Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) turned in a school record in the triple jump on Friday, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University track & field team on the second day of the renowned Penn Relays. On the men's side of things the Ravens fielded a team in the sprint medley relay Championship of America Invitational at historic Franklin Field.

Baah's school-record triple jump mark of 11.35 meters was more than a half-meter (0.59m) longer than her previous season best and was good enough to finish 22nd on Friday. The mark moves Baah up to second in both the Northeast-10 Conference and the East Region.

Also on Friday, the men competed in a rarely-run event, the sprint medley relay, which was termed by head coach Zach Emerson as "the distance medley relay's aggressive little brother". The event features a pair of 200-meter legs, followed by a 400-meter leg and an 800-meter anchor leg. Sophomore Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) and junior Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) took care of the 200-meter sections, freshman Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) took the baton for the 400 and senior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) fired up a split of 1:51 for the final 800 meters. It all added up to 3:25.75 and a 14th-place finish for the Ravens, who placed second among six Division II participants.

Franklin Pierce will wrap up its annual trip to The Quaker City on Saturday, with a pair of entries on the final day of the Penn Relays. Both come from the men's team, which will field a squad in the 4x800-meter relay Championship of America Invitational and send Rindal Pierre-Canel to compete in the triple jump.
