Galewski Wins Pentathlon at Tufts; Field Events Lead Women’s Track & Field at BU
BOSTON (January 27, 2017) – Senior Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) posted a school-record mark to win the pentathlon on Friday at the Tufts Stampede for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team. Meanwhile, the rest of the Ravens were at Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, where the day was highlighted by yet another school record for freshman Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.).
Galewski rang up a school-record 3227 points in the pentathlon on Friday, which is the 29th-best mark in the nation so far this winter. It was good enough to win the multi-event at Tufts by 43 points in a field of 13 athletes. Galewski placed in the top-five in each of the day's five events, including three event wins. She was victorious in the 60-meter hurdles (9.18) for 873 points, the shot put (10.37m) for 665 points and the long jump (4.99m) for 557 points. In addition, Galewski ranked third in the 800 meters (2:33.99) for 706 points and fourth in the high jump (1.48m) for 599 points.
Meanwhile, at BU, it was the third straight week of setting the school's shot put record for Comstock, who came up with a heave of 12.27 meters on Friday. The throw was good enough to finish 18th and currently ranks fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference on the season.
Comstock led a quartet of notable field performances for the Ravens at the Terrier Invitational. Senior Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) moved to eighth in the NE10 in the long jump, as she leaped 5.18 meters to finish 16th. Elsewhere, in the weight throw, junior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished 16th with a throw of 14.67 meters, and senior Kendra Plant (Cumberland, R.I.) notched a throw of 13.33 meters to place 27th. Both weight-throw marks would be good enough to rank in the top 16 of the NE10 on the season, but both student-athletes already have longer throws on record this winter.
The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Middletown, Conn. for the Wesleyan Invite.
