Comstock Continues Record-Setting Ways for Women’s Track & Field at GBTC Invitational

BOSTON (January 22, 2017) – For the second straight week, freshman Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) set a school record in the shot put on Sunday, leading the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational, held at Harvard.

Comstock put together a heave of 12.01 meters, breaking her own school record in the shot put from a week ago. On Sunday, her throw was good for third place and moved her into eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference on the year.

It was one of two school records established by throwers on the day, as junior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) added a program record in the weight throw, checking in at 15.73 meters. Her throw was also good enough for third place, and moved her into fourth in the NE10 so far this winter. Farther down the list, senior Kendra Plant (Cumberland, R.I.) added a seventh-place finish in the weight throw, with a throw of 13.66 meters.

Elsewhere in field events, sophomore Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) posted top-three finishes in both the triple jump and the long jump on Sunday. She won the triple jump, with a mark of 11.16 meters, while finishing third in the long jump, with a leap of 5.19 meters. Baah's triple jump mark would have been good enough to meet the NEICAAA Championships qualifying standard, but Baah had already qualified herself earlier in the season.

Out on the track, Franklin Pierce took home the top three spots in the 5000 meters at the GBTC Invitational. Freshman Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) won with a time of 20:13.52, followed by junior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.) in second (20:19.02) and freshman Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) in third (20:32.64). Cormier's time moved her into 10th in the NE10 in the event, while Zylak now stands 12th in the league.

The Ravens also collected a pair of top-three finishes in the 60-meter hurdles. Senior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.) took second, with a time of 9.41 seconds, while senior Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) was just a tick behind, taking third with a time of 9.42 seconds.

The Ravens return to action on Jan. 27-28, for the John Thomas Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
