Women’s Track & Field Finishes Eighth at Northeast-10 Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 7, 2016) – Junior Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) finished third in the heptathlon on Saturday, leading the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on the second day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by American International. She was the highest scorer of the day for the Ravens, who finished eighth at the meet.

Franklin Pierce had four student-athletes and one relay team collect points across five events, to finish with 59 points over the two days of the Northeast-10 Championships. Up front, Stonehill (168 points) laid claim to the Conference title, while Southern Connecticut State (136 points) in second, Merrimack (127.5 points) in third, New Haven (80.5 points) in fourth and Adelphi (78 points) in fifth rounded out the top five.

Galewski finished with a mark of 3824 points in the heptathlon to pick up six points for her team with the third-place finish. Of the three events conducted on the second day, her best finish came in the final event, the 800-meter run. Galewski turned in a time of 2:36.67 to finish second in the event and chalk up 612 points.

Elsewhere, the Ravens got a pair of fourth-place finishes worth five points each. In the 100-meter hurdles final, junior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.) turned in a time of 15.23 seconds to finish fourth. In the triple jump, freshman Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) turned in a mark of 11.31 meters to place fourth.

The remaining individual to score for Franklin Pierce on Saturday was senior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.). She picked up one point for an eighth-place finish in the discus, with a throw of 31.83 meters.

Finally, the Ravens picked up four points in the 4x400-meter relay, with a fifth-place finish. A lineup of sophomore Danielle Crawford (Lowell, Mass.), sophomore Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.), senior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) and senior Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.) combined to turn in a time of 4:03.81.

The Ravens return to the track on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, when they travel to the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, Conn.
