Loney 200m Win Highlights Women’s Track & Field’s Day at Capital District Classic

TROY, N.Y. (April 30, 2016) – Senior Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.) of the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team won the 200-meter dash on Saturday, to lead the way for the Ravens at the Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI.

The meet served as the final tune-up for the team before the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which are set for Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, hosted by American International in Springfield, Mass.

Loney turned in a time of 26.34 seconds for her win in the 200, which is good enough to tie for 10th in the Northeast-10 so far this spring.

Loney's mark was one of three notable times on the track for the Ravens on Saturday. In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.) finished second, with a time of 15.54 seconds, which ranks sixth in the NE-10. Loney and Souliere also ran the first two legs on the 4x100-meter relay for Franklin Pierce, which placed third, with a time of 50.99 seconds, good for sixth in the league. Senior Nicki Zeigler (Circleville, N.Y.) and junior Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) ran the final two legs.

The rest of Franklin Pierce's notable marks came in field events at RPI, led by senior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.), who competed in both the discus and the hammer. In the discus, she finished ninth, with a throw of 33.83 meters. In the hammer, she placed third, with a heave of 45.82 meters, which ranks fourth in the NE-10.

Hyde's finish was one of four top-six marks in the Northeast-10 from Ravens in the hammer on the day. Sophomore Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) was right behind Hyde and finished fourth (45.81m), with a mark which is fifth in the NE-10. Junior Kendra Plant (Cumberland, R.I.) took eighth (44.37m), which currently ranks sixth in the league.

Elsewhere, junior Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) finished second in the javelin, with a throw of 36.89 meters.
