Cassara Notches Season Best as Women’s Track & Field Competes at BU

Galewski participates in pentathlon at Tufts

BOSTON (January 29, 2016) – A season-best in the 800 meters for sophomore Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was among the highlights for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on Friday at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.

Cassara ran a time of 2:24.71 to place 91st in the 800 meters on Friday. Her season-best time is currently good for 11th in the Northeast-10 Conference.

A trio of other Ravens turned in times on the track which would have ranked among the top 15 in the Northeast-10, though each competitor had already run a faster time earlier in the season. Senior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) finished 54th in the mile with a time of 5:11.33, junior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.) placed 60th in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 9.75 seconds, and senior Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.) was 124th in the in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.88 seconds.

Also on the track, Franklin Pierce's 4x400-meter relay ran a 4:09.82 to finish 44th and post a time which currently ranks fifth in the Northeast-10. The Ravens' lineup consisted of sophomore Danielle Crawford (Lowell, Mass.), Cassara, Lambert and Loney.

In field events at BU, three Ravens cracked the top 50 in the weight throw. Sophomore Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) took 43rd with a throw of 12.72 meters, junior Kendra Plant (Cumberland, R.I.) was 46th with a heave of 12.43 meters, and senior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) placed 47th with a mark of 12.36 meters.

Elsewhere on Friday, junior Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) competed in the pentathlon at the Tufts Stampede, where she finished eighth with 2518 points. Along the way, she placed fourth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 4.94 meters, which is currently good for 10th in the Northeast-10.
