Lambert Second in 1,000m with NE-10’s Best Time for Women’s Track & Field at Jay Carisella Invitational

Ravens also find success in long jump, triple jump

ROXBURY, Mass. (December 14, 2013) – Sophomore Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) finished second in the 1,000 meters on Saturday, posting the best time in the Northeast-10 Conference in 2013-14 in the process, to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team in action at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern at Reggie Lewis Center. The Ravens also posted a pair of top-10 finishes in both the long jump and the triple jump.

Lambert's time of 3:00.01 left her behind only Dartmouth junior Margaret Donovan and was good enough to meet the qualifying standard for the New England Championships. After conversion due to the size of the track at the Reggie Lewis Center, the time blows away the other marks in the Northeast-10 through the season's first two weeks. Lambert now sits more than 11 seconds in front of Stonehill senior Melissa Ulcena.

Behind Lambert, freshman Holly Lindoe (Holbrook, N.Y.) placed sixth in the 1,000 with a time of 3:18.09, which is good for sixth in the Northeast-10 after conversion. For perspective, despite ranking sixth in the Conference, Lindoe's time is closer to Ulcena's second-best mark than Ulcena's is to Lambert's.

Elsewhere on the track, freshman Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.) ran a time of 9.62 in her preliminary heat in the 60-meter hurdles, which ranked her 12th at the meet. Despite not qualifying for the event's final, the time is good for a tie for 10th in the Northeast-10.

In field events, Franklin Pierce made out well in both the triple jump and the long jump. In the triple jump, sophomore Danielle Demers (Auburn, Maine) placed sixth (10.80m), while freshman Brooke Simmons (Dunbarton, N.H.) posted a jump just one centimeter shorter (10.79m) to finish seventh. The marks currently rank sixth and seventh in the Northeast-10, respectively.

In the long jump, freshman Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) placed eighth (5.03m) and Simmons finished ninth (4.94m), with the former moving into sixth in the Northeast-10. For Simmons, the jump was just eight centimeters shy of her jump from last week, which still ranks seventh in the Northeast-10.

The meet was not scored from a team perspective.

The Ravens return to the track on Sunday, Jan. 12, when they travel to the Dartmouth Relays.
