Women’s Track & Field Scores in Seven Events on Second Day of Northeast-10 Championships

Pair of relays run season-best times

Hyde Hyde scored in two differen events on Saturday for the Ravens, including a season-best throw in the shot put.

EASTON, Mass. (May 3, 2014) – Sophomore Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) picked up points in both the discus and shot put on Saturday, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team on the second and final day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Stonehill at W.B. Mason Stadium. In all, the Ravens collected 35 points over the weekend to finish eighth out of 10 teams.

Hyde had the highest finish for Franklin Pierce on Saturday, as she took third in the discus, with a throw of 35.16 meters to earn six points. She also placed eighth in the shot put for one point, with a season-long heave of 11.04 meters.

The Ravens picked up three more points in field events on the day, thanks to another two season-best performances. In the high jump, freshman Brooke Simmons (Dunbarton, N.H.) cleared 1.57 meters to finish seventh and earn two points. In the triple jump, sophomore Danielle Demers (Auburn, Maine) posted a mark of 10.88 meters to place eighth and earn one point.

Franklin Pierce's remaining scoring came on the track, as the team collected seven further points over three events. Individually, sophomore Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) finished seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 11:56.60, to earn two points. In the 4x100-meter relay, a team of sophomore Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.), sophomore Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.), sophomore Nicki Zeigler (Circleville, N.Y.) and Simmons ran a season-best time of 49.43 seconds to finish fifth for four points. In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Lambert, freshman Melanie Hill (Danbury, Conn.), Price and Loney stopped the clock at 4:10.20, also a season best for the team, to place eighth for one point.

Selected Ravens return to the track next week for the New England Championships, hosted May 9-10 by Westfield State in Westfield, Mass. Franklin Pierce has had five student-athletes post marks which met the qualifying standards for the meet.
