Field Events Highlight Day One of Northeast-10 Championships for Women’s Track & Field

Ravens collect points in three events

Olson Olson picked up six points for the Ravens by finishing third in the javelin on Friday at the Northeast-10 Championships.

EASTON, Mass. (May 2, 2014) – Freshman Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) took second in the javelin on Friday afternoon to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Stonehill at W.B. Mason Stadium. Through the first day of the two-day event, the Ravens have collected 18 points and sit seventh out of 10 teams.

Gagnon, who entered the day with the longest toss in the Northeast-10 on the season, uncorked a throw of 36.37 meters. Though the mark was nearly four meters off her season best, it was still good for second place. Gagnon was bested only by Southern Connecticut State senior Ourania Bletsas, who needed a season-long throw of 38.74 meters, to take the title. Gagnon's throw earned eight points for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce earned further javelin points from sophomore Micaila Olson (Upton, Mass.), who recorded a distance of 35.71 meters to finish third and pick up six points. The team's remaining four points came in the hammer throw, where sophomore Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) used a season-best toss of 38.27 meters to finish fifth.

The Northeast-10 Championships conclude on Saturday.
