A Singles Sweep Launches Women’s Tennis Past St. Anselm, 7-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. (10/12/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's tennis team put on an impressive display, sweeping St. Anselm College 7-0 in a dominant performance. 

RECORDS: 

  • FPU: 5-4 (4-4 NE10)  
  • STA: 4-7 (2-6 NE10)  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Ravens secured the doubles point by winning two out of three matches. At #1 doubles, Victoria Azcona (Madrid Spain) and Maria Paz Diaz Florentin (Asuncion, Paraguay) clinched a tight 7-5 victory, while Polina Georgieva (Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria) and Ana Munoz (Anzoategui, Venezuela) dominated at #3 doubles with a 6-2 win. Though the #2 doubles team of Zoe Asterio-Correa (Toronto, Ontario) and Gabriela Yamate (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fell 4-6, FPU secured the overall doubles point with their other wins. 

  • In singles action, FPU maintained their momentum, winning all six matches. At #1 singles, Georgieva mounted an impressive comeback, defeating Irene Garbo 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Asterio-Correa followed suit at #2 singles, battling back to take down Julie Börschig 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. 

  • Azcona claimed a hard-fought win at #3 singles, defeating Natalia Gonzalez Ramos 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Meanwhile, Yamate cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #4 singles over Camila Heredia Osante. At #5 singles, Florentin delivered a strong 6-1, 6-4 win over Abigail Svor, and Munoz sealed the sweep at #6 singles, outlasting Alyssa Conley 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
