RINDGE, N.H. (October 19, 2019) – For the first time in program history, the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team is postseason-bound. The Ravens used a 4-3 victory at home over Assumption on Saturday afternoon, in the final match of the regular season to chalk up the team's first-ever bid to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, which will begin with the first round on Wednesday. Franklin Pierce will be the fifth seed and travel to take on fourth-seeded Le Moyne at 1 p.m. on the campus of Syracuse University.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-5 (6-4 NE10), while Assumption sees its fall season come to an end at 5-7 (4-6 NE10).

The doubles point on Saturday, and effectively the entire team match, hung in the balance at second doubles, which went to a tiebreak. Franklin Pierce freshmen Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas) were ultimately able to pull out a 7-6 (5) win over Assumption junior Valeria Sanchez and senior Camille Latoni. Earlier in doubles play, graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) had picked up a 6-2 win at first doubles over junior Julia Chappell and senior Maria Monje.

The tiebreaker at second doubles wound up looming large, as five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets. The only singles contest which went to three sets went Saint Anselm's way, as Sanchez posted a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win over freshman Ashley Flood (Laredo, Texas).

The match which would officially seal the postseason berth for Franklin Pierce came at first singles, where Mor dealt with Chappell rather handily, 6-1, 6-4.

The Ravens also chalked up wins at second and third singles as well. At second singles, Loria swept away Monje, 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, it was a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win for Alvarez Tello over freshman Aimee Figgins.
