Women’s Tennis Downed at Bates, 8-1

LEWISTON, Maine (October 13, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team hit the road for non-conference play on Sunday and suffered an 8-1 defeat at Bates.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 8-5, while Bates opens its season at 1-0.

Bates opened play by taking all three doubles matches, while dropping only three combined games.

The lone point of the day for Franklin Pierce came at second singles, courtesy of freshman Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain). She chalked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Bates senior Isabelle Rovinski. Elsewhere, freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) was competitive at first singles, but suffered a 6-2, 6-3 defeat to sophomore Anna Rozin.

Bates dropped only seven combined games while taking victories at third through sixth singles to finish out the 8-1 victory.

The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they travel to Post for a non-conference match at 1 p.m.
