Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Bentley, 7-0

RINDGE, N.H. (October 5, 2019) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team swept through their match against Bentley on Saturday afternoon. Every match was won by the Ravens on their home courts, which meant a final score of 7-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference affair.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 6-3 (3-3 NE10), while Bentley falls to 3-6 (2-6 NE10).

In first doubles, graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) bested Alessa Matuty and Zoe Chin, 6-1. At second doubles, Anna Higgins and Cindy Luo fell short of Franklin Pierce freshmen Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas), 6-0. The third doubles match was also a huge win for the Ravens, as freshman Ashley Flood (Laredo, Texas) and senior Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.) took care of Alyssa Cook and Grace Bennett, 6-1. Taking all three doubles matches allowed Franklin Pierce to claim the doubles point with ease.

Singles went equally as successful for Franklin Pierce, beginning with Mor's win at first singles against Matuty, 6-2, 6-2. In second singles, Loria swept to a win against Chin, 6-0, 6-0. Alvarez Tello won at third singles by taking down Bennett, 6-2, 6-0. Fourth singles was won by Ashley Flood in a tiebreaker set, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4, against Cook. Jazmin Flood took fifth singles against Cindy Luo, with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Finally, freshman Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) won at sixth singles against Miruna Constantin, 6-1, 6-3.

The Ravens will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 7, when they remain home to host Assumption in an NE10 match at 3 p.m. in Rindge.
