Women’s Tennis Chalks up 6-1 win at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 29, 2019) – It was a bounce-back Sunday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team. The Ravens took to the road for the second straight day and defeated Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International College, 6-1.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improved to 5-3 (2-3 NE10), while AIC fell to 0-8 (0-6 NE10).

The Ravens came away victorious in all three of the doubles matches to lay claim to the doubles point. The senior and freshman duo of Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.) and Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) swept their counterparts 6-0 at third doubles, in the most dominant of the three contests. Elsewhere, freshmen Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas) took a 6-2 win at second doubles, while graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) notched a 6-3 win at first doubles.

During the singles matches the Ravens won four of the five matchups in what was a whole team effort. AIC claimed its lone point at first singles, while the Yellow Jackets defaulted at sixth singles due to a shortage of players. At second through sixth singles, it was landslide wins for Franklin Pierce. Alvarez Tello rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles, Flood notched a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles, Pagliuca swept to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles and O'Donnell ran up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at fifth singles.

The Ravens are back in action on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Saint Michael's College, to take on the Purple Nights in an NE10 matchup at 3 p.m. in Colchester, Vt.
