Women’s Tennis Downed at SNHU, 5-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 28, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team hit the road on the front end of a two-match weekend on Saturday afternoon, and suffered a 5-2 defeat in Northeast-10 Conference play at Southern New Hampshire.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-3 (1-3 NE10), while SNHU improves to 4-1 (4-1 NE10).

SNHU opened play by taking the doubles point after posting wins in two of the three doubles matches, all of which were largely uncompetitive. At first doubles, SNHU freshman Magdalena Hubickova and sophomore Alexxa Etienne posted a 6-2 win over graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia). Franklin Pierce struck back with a 6-2 victory of its own at second doubles, as freshmen Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas) took care of fellow freshmen Mina Houge and Selin Seyfettinoglu. SNHU claimed the doubles point with a 6-1 win at third doubles, courtesy of sophomore Elizabeth Dwyer and Isabella Andrade, who upended senior Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.) and freshman Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.).

Franklin Pierce's two points on the afternoon came at second and third singles. Second singles was the afternoon's most competitive match, as it went all the way to a tiebreaker third set before Loria pulled out a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Seyfettinoglu. At third singles, it was a 6-3, 6-4 win for Alvarez Tello over Etienne.

SNHU took each of the remaining four singles matches in straight sets to finish off the 5-2 victory.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Sept. 29, when they travel to American International for an NE10 match at 1 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.
