Women’s Tennis Rolls over RIC, 6-1

RINDGE, N.H. (September 19, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team bounced back from Tuesday's defeat on Thursday evening, as the Ravens cruised to a 6-1 win over visiting Rhode Island College in non-conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-2, while Rhode Island College falls to 6-1.

Franklin Pierce opened play with wins in two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The Ravens were dominant at first doubles, where graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) rolled to a 6-1 victory over RIC juniors Grace Zangari and Laurel Ten Eyck. At third doubles, it was a 6-3 win for seniors Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.) and Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) over junior Hailey Raskob and sophomore Clara Siegmund. RIC picked up a 6-4 win at second doubles, as freshman Jenna Lisi and junior Emily Orticero slipped past freshmen Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas) and Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain).

Franklin Pierce took control of the match in singles play, with wins in each of the top five singles matches to cruise to the 6-1 victory. At first singles, Loria swept away Lisi, 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, it was a 6-1, 6-2 win for Alvarez Tello over Zangari. Rich battled to a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at third singles, as she dispatched Ten Eyck. Freshman Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) had to battle back at fourth singles to pick up a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 win over Raskob. At fifth singles, Flood took a straight-set win from junior Victoria Vittori, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

RIC picked up its lone point of the day at sixth singles, where junior Serena Bobola collected a 6-4, 6-3 win over Washburn.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, Sept. 26, when they remain home to host Plymouth State in a non-conference match at 3 p.m. in Rindge.
