Women’s Tennis Falls to Roberts Wesleyan, 7-0

RINDGE, N.H. (March 15, 2019)  The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated at home on Friday evening, 7-0, by Roberts Wesleyan in non-conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-14, while Roberts Wesleyan improves to 10-7.

Roberts Wesleyan opened play by winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The lone match win of the day for Franklin Pierce came at second doubles, where junior Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) and freshman Grayson LaCroix (Cherry Valley, Mass.) took a 6-1 decision from Roberts Wesleyan sophomore Bijisha Shrestha and junior Salome Darsalia.

The Redhawks also took all six singles matches, all in straight sets, to finish off the 7-0 sweep. The most competitive singles contest came at second singles, where LaCroix put up a fight while dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision to senior Andrea Gallardo. Junior Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.) also looked strong early on for the Ravens, before eventually falling to Shrestha, 7-5, 6-0.

The Ravens return to the court on Monday, March 18, when they open a three-match trip to Florida with a non-conference tilt at Eckerd at 10 a.m. in St. Petersburg, Fla.
